Learn to Swim

Give your child the gift of swimming

Campaspe Aquatic and Leisure Services’ Learn to Swim program gives children the opportunity to learn a variety of vital skills that will give them confidence in the water.

Learn to Swim lessons are offered during school terms at the Echuca War Memorial Aquatic Centre with an intensive program offered during school holidays.
A Holiday Aquatic Education program is offered at the Shire of Campaspe’s seven outdoor pools in January each year.
The Learn to Swim program delivers Royal Life Saving’s nationally accredited Swim and Survive program, with three levels aimed at developing skills to ensure a balanced and comprehensive approach to your child’s aquatic introduction and education.

Wonder Award

A water familiarisation program for children aged 6 to 36 months and parents/carers that develops skills such as breathing, kicking and arm movements, underwater competency and water safety.

Courage Award

A program aimed at building confidence in the water for children aged 3 to 5 years.
This level is fundamental to the development of basic swimming skills with lessons covering survival and water safety, movement through the water, and the introduction of basic swimming strokes.

Active Award

A more advanced swimming and water safety program for children aged of 5 to 14 years, covering personal aquatic survival skills, movement and swimming strokes.

Why Learn to Swim?

- qualified and certified instructors

- 1 in 5 of all drowning deaths are children aged under 18 years of age
- 56 children drowned last year
- 91% of children aged 0-4 fell or wandered into the water
- 43% of children aged 10-14 drowned in rivers

- drowning rate dramatically increases as teenagers become young adults.

The Learn to Swim program not only develops the skills that might one day save your child’s life or the life of somebody else, it also builds your child’s confidence as they develop new skills and move through the different levels of the program and provides an opportunity for social engagement in a fun, safe and healthy environment.
